Program Description:

**This program is a semester-long commitment. By registering for this opportunity you are expected to serve at this program until the end of the semester. The reason some DOVE programming is structured like this is to create a sense of consistency for our more vulnerable partners, and to allow for volunteers to build relationships throughout the semester.

Upon registration the dates you are committing to serve are (Thurs.) – (Mandatory 9/10 onboarding, mandatory 9/17 medical visit) 9/24, 10/1, 10/8, 10/15, 10/22, 10/29, 11/5, 11/12, 11/19, 12/3, 12/10
Timing: 11:00AM-1:45PM

Program Description: Volunteers will assist at the Life Hospice center with the following:

Inventorying medical supplies to ensure that our nursing team is well equipped.

Assembling patient intake packets so that our families have all of the information they need from the onset of care.

Assisting in implementing our Life Review program, where families gather pictures and stories, and volunteers assemble at our office in a meaningful way.

Helping with our Bereavement program, in mailing sympathy cards and other useful information to help our families through the grieving process.

Assisting in Memorial Services when possible, and creating a Memorial within Life Hospice's office.

Making weekly Comfort Calls, in which volunteers provide a compassionate ear and ensure that each patient's needs are being met.

Creating welcome baskets for our patients and families to provide extra comforting items.

Developing specialized music playlists for patients and families.

Designing Memory Boards for our patients with memory decline.

Working on special projects to make Hospice Care available to all of those in our community.

Developing tools for our website so that we may share resources digitally with our families and patients.

Coordinating the recognition of our patient's special memories, such as birthdays and anniversaries.

For full registration in this program there is an extensive testing process to keep everyone safe. All testing and background checks will be taken care of by Life Hospice during the program timing listed above. Student will need to bring:

- 2 forms of ID (drivers license, passport, birth certificate, or Social Security card)

- 2 references, and clear our background check

The medical screening will include a physical, Quantiferon Gold test, MMR Titer test, and Drug Screen

Once registered, students will receive an email 24-48 hours before the event outlining any additional information needed.

DOVE Volunteer Absentee Policy:  The success of every DOVE program depends on volunteers showing up.  If you are signed up for a program and cannot attend, it is your responsibility to unregister within 2 days of the event. This will open up your spot to the next available volunteer. In case of an emergency volunteers must give their program coordinator 24-hour notice.  Any volunteer who misses THREE volunteer programs without notice will no longer be able to continue volunteering with DOVE.  Additionally, DOVE will not be able to verify or sign off on any completed volunteer hours for students that miss three programs.
